Essential maintenance works were carried out this week with the co-operation of dedicated staff from the Office of Public Works (OPW) who carried out de-vegging of the structure. This involved the removal of unwanted foliage and moss growth which is potentially destructive to the building if left unchecked for long periods. Due to the the absence of the roof over time considerable tree growth had become established inside the Keep itself which required removal by specialists. Extensive moss growth which had also become attached to both the inside and outside of the building was carefully removed successfully.
In addition, this work is most welcome as our technical survey team will now be able to carry out their work unhindered by any excessive foliage growth and also be able to obtain a clearer picture of the Keep's overall structure visually unhindered.
